The B Corporation certification is a global movement for an inclusive, equitable and regenerative economy. Unlike other business certifications, it measures a company's total social and environmental impact.
A Benefit B Corporation, also known as a B Corp, is a business or company that balances profit with purpose. B Corps are legally required to consider the impact of their decisions on their employees, customers, suppliers, community and the environment.
As a B Corp certified company since 2024, we're one of these leading companies. And did you know that we are the first Swedish beauty brand to be B Corp certified?
Impact score
To be certified as a B Corp, a company must undergo a thorough review of its impact on governance, workers, community, environment and customers.
After a comprehensive review of our sustainability efforts, Maria Nila was certified with a score of 114.3, with a minimum of 80 points required for certification.
Our score is divided into five categories:
- Governance (8.4)
- Workers (20.6)
- Community (38.2)
- Environment (43.6)
- Customers (3.3)
On a mission
Since 1999, Maria Nila has been on a journey to be leading sustainable beauty. Together, we innovate beauty every day for a friendlier world for nature, wildlife and people. That is why we donate 2% of our net sales to create a friendlier world to three main areas:
supporting nature
To make our products a little friendlier, we are proud to work with Plan Vivo, a nonprofit organization that implements emission reduction projects that create social and environmental benefits in poor rural communities.
Each year, we calculate the total CO2 emissions from our packaging and operations, and by the end of the year, we offset an equal amount.
Since 2016, Maria Nila has contributed to the planting of more than 280,000 m2 of forest in Nicaragua.
supporting wildlife
The philosophy of Choosing Friendly does not stop with our products, we also care about the world around us. To further protect wildlife and animals, our charity program brings our community together to raise awareness and funds for endangered species.
Every year on World Vegan Day, November 1st, we kick off our charity project Be Friendly Friendly, through which we do campaigns and activities to raise funds to support and save wildlife, animals and nature around the world.
Over the years, we have made a difference for animals such as sea turtles, rhinos, elephants, whales, sloths, pollinators and mote. Since 2016, Maria Nila has donated more than $648,000 to conservation projects.
supporting humanity
At Maria Nila, we support local communities close to our homes: our head office in New York, Stockholm, and our factory in southern Sweden, Helsingborg.
Supporting local communities in need is important for several reasons. At Maria Nila, we prioritize understanding and addressing the unique needs, challenges and opportunities of these local communities to support and ensure basic needs are met.
In 2024, we worked closely with organizations in Sweden, as well as Amenity Aid and Giving the Basics in the US, to ensure that our hygiene products reach the right communities. In 2023, Maria Nila donated products valued at over $1,769,000.
